The Hunchback in the Park
The Hunchback in the Park My life makes me want to run away. Iââ¬â¢ve got no place to go. No family, no house, no anything. All wiped out by a fire in 2001. I did not get any money paid out by the insurance company because they said the fire was an ââ¬Å"act of Godâ⬠caused by a lightning strike, which my insurance did not cover. Since then, Iââ¬â¢ve been walking this park, alone and joked about by everyone who walks past me. Now I guess youââ¬â¢re wondering, why donââ¬â¢t I get a job? Why does everyone joke about me? Why do I not ask my family for help?Well, I have been applying for jobs, itââ¬â¢s just that no-one accepts me. I studied hard at school and I got decent grades, but no jobs are available to me. The answer to the second question is something that I just have to live with. During the fire, My face was horribly burned. This, added to the fact that I am short and have a hunchback, makes people fear me and run away or just shout abuse at me. Finally, the answer to the third question is that I simply do not have any. My parents died when I was two years old. I have no aunties, no uncles, nobody. There is one person in my life though. If there is anyone who could be ââ¬Å"that special someoneâ⬠, itââ¬â¢s her. Sheââ¬â¢s beautiful. Despite never talking to her, our eyes have met many times and itââ¬â¢s love at first sight. I just wish I could gather up the courage to finally talk to her. It has been a while since Iââ¬â¢ve approached a woman without being slapped or ran away from. In fact, it has been a while since I have approached anyone. Any social interaction with the world feels awkward and scary because it has been so long. The only interaction I have with the outside world is through the local children who torment me each day. Each day, I sit on this bench starving. The only meals I eat are leftovers I manage to find in the bin. It is a miracle how I survive. How I have not died from dehydration, starvation or hyp othermia is a miracle. I have not had a shower in months. I just wish someone would take me home. Look ââ¬â there's the woman! The woman which takes my breath away every time I see her. Maybe she could be the one to take me off the streets.Only if I could gather up the courage to approach her my life would not be as much of a mess and I could get my life moving in the right direction. OK, I'm going to do it this time. I'm going to talk to her! As I get off the bench, I spot the local children! Quick, hide! Those pesky local children are coming. Look at them, with their hoods up; with their phones playing out their angry music; with their hands in the shape of a gun. They make my life hell ââ¬â even though I donââ¬â¢t provoke them.I can't run very fast due to my disability (which is my hunchback) so when the children chase me I can not get away. They circle me and torment me. One day, they pushed me over. It hurt and many people seen this, but no-one came to help me. I was shocked that no-one asked me if I was OK, this is one of the reasons I give up on the world. People are selfish and do not care about anyone else. Eventually, the children grew tiresome of mocking me and left ââ¬â either that or they left because it was getting dark. So, here I am once again.Another lonely night, propped up against a tree, with no-one to hold. No family to wish goodnight. Oh, what I would give to feel loved again. Each day is a recurring nightmare, except I can't wake up. I'm going to make a promise to myself now, and it is that tomorrow I'm going to try turn my life around. I'm going to apply for a job and I'm going to ask the girl of my dreams to dinner. Oh, how wonderful life could become with those two simple things. ââ¬Å"You! â⬠, the park keeper says, as he pokes me with his pointed stick used for picking up leaves, ââ¬Å"Time to move along. â⬠.So my day begins, and I'm feeling slightly optimistic for once ââ¬â knowing that today I will be once again attempting to sort out my life. You may be thinking, ââ¬Å"Why do you think this attempt will be any different to your others? â⬠, well I'm not too sure myself. All I know is that today I'm going to come across as a confident individual. I think this is what I have been lacking, but it is hard for me to be confident when I have the likes of those pesky children always tormenting me, insulting me and abusing me. Emily Carr Research Essay
Emily was accepted by the Group of Seven, and by far is British Columbians favorite artist. Emily Carr was a rave girl who strode to be different and was not afraid to show off her unique style of art. Her interest and talent for art was recognized when she was still just a small girl. Emily was born on December 13, 1871 , in what was then, the small provincial town of Victoria, BC. She was the second youngest in her family Out Of the six children. Both Of her parents, Richard and Emily, were English; therefore, English manners and values were followed in Scars family.Emily had a pretty good relationship with her family during her childhood. Her mother although was almost always sick, and that left her eldest sister [Edith] to raise and discipline the younger children along with Email's father 1. All in all, Emily respected and loved her siblings, which is clearly demonstrated in her writing in ââ¬Å"The Book of Small. â⬠ââ¬Å"My sister Alice was two years older than I and kn ew a lot. Leslie was two years older than Alice and thought she knew it all. My big sister did know everything. â⬠2 1- Maria Tippet, Emily Carr: A Biography, peg. 2- Emily Carr, The Book of small Emily began art lessons while she was still in school, receiving instructions from some resident artists of Victoria. While still a teenager her parents passed away, and finances became tight. Art was really the only thing that separated her from her sisters who couldn't understand her work or desire to pursue It in spite of their financial problems. Out of all her sisters, Emily was the only one who took art seriously. Carr didn't find school to be of any appeal to her, and she didn't want to follow in her sisters' footsteps. So at age 17, after getting permission from her legal guardian Edith, she attended the San Francisco Art School. San Francisco turned out to be just the start of Car's journey. Although it med like she learned a lot, Emily still wanted more. ââ¬Å"l had not lear ned very much, not half what I had intended to absorb once I got into the Old country. â⬠3 After spending more than three years in San Francisco, Carr returned to Victoria. For six years Emily taught art to children in Victoria, while saving up enough money for her to travel to England and continue her studies. This wasn't the only thing that Emily did over those couple of years. Carr had a fascination with Indians from childhood, and it grew with her as Emily matured into a woman. After returning from San Francisco, and spending mom time in Victoria, Emily set off for a real life adventure in Clientele to spend some time living with Natives on their reserve. 4 The native people accepted her easily in their homes and lives, and she developed a special relationship with them. Emily preferred to live a different lifestyle than most Victorians; she was more interested in learning the indigenous way of life. She often traveled by boat, and spent nights alone, sleeping in a tent. As she deepened herself in the native spirituality and grew stronger relationships with the Clutter people, they named her Kale Wick, The Laughing One. Maria Tippet, Emily Carr: A Biography, peg. 63-4 4 ââ¬â Maria Tippet, Emily Carr: A Biography, peg. 30-31 After a few years Carr took her savings and finally continued her formal studies in England at the Westminster School of Art, and also in private studios of a number of British watercolors. Later she traveled to France, which turned out to be more inspiring for her.Finding Paris too stressful for her, she chose to tramp through the French countryside. Staying in small towns and villages she painted, and this is where her art journey started to take on a more Post-Impressionist style. In the small town of Creche-en-Erie and later on in SST. Flame, Carr studied under Philae Gibbs. It was from him that she finally found her true art passion, learning to translate the landscape from a realistic impression to a new, abstract realizat ion, influenced by the Fauves and Cubists, then in vogue in Paris. 5 Although Carr learned a lot in France, she did not feel that she wanted to stay there for long. She was not respected by many, and she struggled to communicate with most French people, especially men. Most importantly, Emily felt homesick in this foreign land. So after spending about 14 months in France she returned to Victoria in 191 1. As it turned out, Car's art wasn't appreciated in the more traditional, strait-laced artistic world of Victoria and Vancouver. In the summer of 191 2, Carr created a great amount of watercolors paintings using her new French style. Her work didn't sell well, and she received lots of negative criticism. After that Carr almost gave up art, but her spirit changed as did her luck when an ethnologist bought two of her paintings. That same ethnologist came back 12 years later to show Email's painting to the director of the National Gallery n Ottawa. 1927 was the official year that everythi ng changed for Emily; it was the year that she traveled to Ottawa to attend the December opening of the Canadian West Coast Art show at the National Gallery. There she met the members of the Group of Seven. Even before Emily arrived, she could already feel that she was heading towards some sort of destiny. The trip did become a huge event for Carr that spun her whole life around. The painting that the 5 ââ¬â http://BMW. Besmirches. Gob. BC. Ca/exhibits/teammate/gallery 1 Frames/ Carr. HTML Group of Seven presented to her caused a great impression on her. Words weren't necessary; the sight was enough to change Car's whole view on what she needed to do, and even on what she could do. That night in her diary Emily Carr confidently wrote: ââ¬Å"Oh, God, what have seen? Where have I been? Something has spoken to the very soul of me, wonderful, mighty, not of this world. The lingering memory of Harris' art was still ââ¬Å"surging through my whole being the wonder of it alarm like a g reat river rushing on, dark and turbulent, and rushing and irresistible, and carrying me away on its wild swirl like a helpless little bundle of recharge:â⬠6 Lawyer Harris later approached Carr and declared to her ââ¬Å"You are one Of us,â⬠welcoming her into the ranks of Canada's leading modernists despite her own self-deprecating attitude. 7 With that statement Emily Carr got associated with the group of seven. After this successful trip Carr returned to Victoria where the most fertile period of her career as an artist began. Until 1931 , she generally used aboriginal themes in her paintings. Then, taking Harris' advice, she stopped focusing so much on native art, and began to focus more on what her inner elf wanted to create. With that, her love of trees, forests and the nature of coastal skies was transferred onto her paintings. The last ten years of Email's life were her most successful as an artist. Although life started to be good to Emily, those ten years were th e ones where Carr started to experience major health problems. Still Emily didn't lose spirit, and as she worked she could finally feel that she was satisfied with her paintings. She could see clearly the main purpose of her life, and so those ten last years became the happiest for her. ââ¬â Susan Cream, The Laughing One: A Journey to Emily Carr 7 ââ¬â http://rust. Ca/history/Carr. HTML In 1 937 Carr experienced her first angina attack. Her doctor restricted her painting activities, and so she focused more on her writing. The following year though, Emily life showered her with happiness when her first solo exhibition took place at the Vancouver Art Gallery. In 1939 Car's health took another blow when she suffered a serious heart attack. That same year, Air Dilators, who was a teacher, editor, and conductor, agreed to edit Emily Car's stories for publication. The year later after her heart attack Carr moved in with her sister Alice, right behind their old family home. Emily Sca rs first book ââ¬Å"Kale Wickâ⬠was finally published in 1941. It was met with great success and won the Governor General's Award for Non-fiction. Shortly after ââ¬ËThe Book of Smallâ⬠was published, and Emily went on her last sketching trip. During the last few years of her life, Emily felt weak, tired out, and feeble. Her poor health conditions restricted her from painting very much, but she still wrote books.Recognition of her work grew steadily as her paintings were Ewing exhibited in London, Paris, Washington, Amsterdam, and as well as in major Canadian cities. In 1 943 there was a major exhibition of her art in the Art Gallery of Toronto. Her books kept on being published one after another. Emily Carr passed away on March 2, 1945 in Victoria, shortly before she was to be awarded an honorary doctorate by the university of British Columbia. She died at peace with herself, happy to have achieved her dreams as an artist. More importantly for her was that she died hav ing discovered her true self and her main purpose in life.

Human Performance Technology
Human Performance Technology (HPT) uses a wide range of interventions that are drawn from many other disciplines including, behavioral psychology, instructional systems design, organizational development, and human resources management. It stresses a rigorous analysis of present and desired levels of performance, identifies the causes for the performance gap, offers a wide range of interventions with which to improve performance, guides the change management process, and evaluates the results. Human Performance Technology Process The human performance technology process begins with a comparison of the present and the desired levels of individual and organizational performance to identify the performance gap. A cause analysis is then done to determine what impact the work environment (information, resources, and incentives) and the people (motives, individual capacity, and skills) are having on performance. Solution to performance problems can fail when they are selected to treat only visible symptoms rather than underlying causes. When the root causes of a problem are uncovered and eliminated, however, the likelihood of significantly reducing or eliminating problems is greatly enhanced. Once the performance gap and the causes have been determined, the appropriate interventions are designed and developed. These may include measurement and feedback systems, new tools and equipment, compensation and reward systems, selection and placement of employees, and training and development. The interventions are then implemented and the change process managed. Evaluation is done after each phase of the process. Initially, formative evaluation assesses the performance analysis, cause analysis, intervention selection and design, and intervention and change phases. Then evaluation focuses on the immediate response of employees and their ability and willingness to do the desired behaviors. The final evaluations are centered on improvement of business outcomes (such as quality, productivity, sales, and customer retention, profitability, and market share) as well as determining return on investment for the intervention. Components of the Human Performance Technology One of the most powerful steps a company can take is to establish measurable, observable criteria whereby a competent individual can determine if a specific, critical task has been done correctly and completely. If individuals have no formal, structured means to evaluate their own performance, supervisors will have no structured, formal means to evaluate an individual performance and provide useful feedback. Training can only address skill deficiencies, that is, the ââ¬Å"can't doâ⬠versus ââ¬Å"won't doâ⬠behaviors. Nonetheless, training can have a dramatic impact by increasing productivity, decreasing unplanned downtime, reducing the learning curve, and reducing trial-and-error learning. A deficiency that companies must often overcome is the lack of standard operating procedures (SOPs), job aids, and other visual tools that can be used to minimize or mitigate process variations introduced by people. The processes, systems, or methods whereby information is conveyed to job incumbents individually and as a group are integral to the total technology plan. Give the workforce early and frequent information. Give all ranks of employees plenty of advance information regarding the impending technological changes. Help them to understand ââ¬â in clear and simple terms- project objectives. Educate them as to why these technological upgrades are necessary and how they present opportunities for changes in the way things are done. Let workers know that concurrent with your commitment to technology upgrades is an equal commitment to employee development. Assure them that you will provide them with adequate and timely training support. Finally, set up a structure to harvest process improvement ideas during the debugging and trial run stages. A human performance technologist, high levels of human performance is usually accomplished through instructional technology and performance technology. Instructional technology attempts to improve organizational performance through improving the ability of individual to perform. While performance technology attempts to improve organizational performance through improving the work environment and the work practices of the organization. In today's educational environment, educators use computer applications to perform many rudimentary tasks, such as preparing instructional materials, reporting student progress, and delivering instruction. The objective of most performance technology into a work environment should be to assist the teacher in completing the tasks. So, human performance technology applied to the design of teacher tools, which is an electronic performance support tool for teachers that will help them in their work environment and task performance by recording the occurrences of tasks, such as grading, lesson planning and reporting and the amount of time performing the tasks. But most of the teachers are not proficient in using the latest technology so they revert back to the manual way of doing their tasks. They need enough time to use the new technology because current work responsibilities demanded a great amount of time. However, the perception of more time needed to use the technology can be elimina ted when teachers realize that the technology is an easier method of performing some of their current work tasks. Many students have limited access to technology because some educational institution cannot afford to adapt to the latest technology because of limited resources. In some instances technology is provided but students have not yet develop the necessary skills to learn it (e.g. the client are kindergartens.

Creatively and play with in early year curriculm Essay
Creatively and play with in early year curriculm - Essay Example Since children are naturally creative, there are also many ways to integrate creativity development in such key learning area. This paper will analyze how creativity can be harnessed in communication, language and literacy activities in the foundation stage. Defining Creativity According to the Reggio Emilia approach, Thornton (2005), states that creativity is essential to successful learning as it enables children to make connections between the different areas of learning which in turn extends their understanding (Rinaldi, 2006). Hood (2008) states that Creativity is a state of mind in which all of our intelligences are working together, he goes on to predict that it involves the basic senses within a human whereby seeing, thinking and generating ideas can be incorporated into any subject at school or in any aspect of life (Hood 2008). Therefore it is essential that children are regularly asked questions and given the opportunity to ask questions in order to further stimulate their creative learning thus increasing their self ââ¬â esteem and confidence (Hood, 2008). Creativity is a quality which can have many advantages as it can be used within many aspects in the childââ¬â¢s later life (Cullingford, 2007). ... This implies that children need to have a variety of experiences to draw from when they develop ideas or when they try to associate one thought with another to come up with a new viewpoint. Developing Creativity in the Key Learning Area of Communication, Language and Literacy Loris Malaguzzi (1998) believes that ââ¬Å"Creativity should not be considered a separate mental faculty but a characteristic of our way of thinking, knowing and making choicesâ⬠(Malaguzzi, 1998, p.75). Children naturally express such creativity in their natural communication. Their communications may be expressed in various forms or ââ¬Å"languagesâ⬠ââ¬â in words, drawing, artwork, three-dimensional constructions, music and movement. Young children do not express their ideas in just one form but move naturally and easily between ââ¬Å"languagesâ⬠. They may vacillate from drawing, speaking, singing and moving (Fawcett & Hay, 2004). This is consistent with the key learning area of Communica tion, Language and Literacy development in the Early Years Foundation Stage. Childrenââ¬â¢s stories are valuable because they present so many benefits to a childââ¬â¢s development. Among the benefits is engaging them in creative imagination as they picture the story unfold in their minds. In practice, storytelling activities are made exciting for children that pupils look forward to story time. It is a time when they imagine wonderful things and then do something fun and creative after, to help them remember the story. Otto (2010) discusses that effective storybook reading techniques involve three parts namely pre-reading, reading and post-reading. These stages are equally important in the appreciation of a story. Burden and Standard of Proof Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Burden and Standard of Proof - Case Study Example Accordingly, the claimant usually bears the legal burden (and by necessity an evidential burden) of proving all the elements of his claim. Similarly, the defendant bears the legal (and evidential) burden of proving any defence and/or counter claim against the claimant. The burden of proof in criminal cases: The basic rule was laid down by Viscount Sankey LC in Woolmington v DPP3, 'Throughout the web of the English criminal law one golden thread is always to be seen, that it is the duty of the prosecution to prove the prisoners guilt4'. It would be possible to justify the rule as part of a policy to avoid embarrassing criticisms of the administration of justice by minimising wrongful convictions. These are more likely to be avoided if the burden is fixed in this way then if an accused person has to prove his innocence. It is also possible to justify the rule by appeal to principle. For example, it would be a necessary feature of the law if it were accepted that, in Dworkin's words, people have a profound right not to be convicted of crimes of which they are innocent. Viscount Sankey said that the rule was subject to exceptions in the case of the defence of insanity and subject also to any statutory exception. But there have been Challenges to the idea that it is ever just to place a legal burden of proof on defendants. Standard of Proof of civil and criminal cases: In criminal cases the standard of proof to which the prosecution must prove its case has been variously described as 'beyond reasonable doubt' (Woolmington v DPP5). In Miller v Minister of pensions6, Denning J described the standard of proof in civil cases as follows: If the evidence is such that the tribunal can say; 'we think it more probable than not,' the burden is discharged, but, if the probabilities are equal, it is not. There are, however, some exceptional cases where the criminal standard of proof is required: (a) Contempt of court (Re Bramble vale Ltd7; Dean v Dean8) (b) Where a person's livelihood is a stake (R v Milk Marketing Board, ex p Austin the Times, 21 March 1987). (c) Allegations of misconduct amounting to a criminal offence in disciplinary hearings (Re A Solicitor9, R (on the application of s) v Governing Body of YP School10). (d) Where statute requires the criminal standard of proof (Judd v Ministers of Pensions and National Insurance11). Presumption of innocence: Legal burdens on defendants may have to be considered in the light of the European Convention on Human Rights, which is now incorporated into English law Under the Human Rights Act 199812. The ECHR, Article 6(2) provides that every one with a criminal offence shall be presumed innocent until provided guilty according to law. The leading authority is Attorney-General's Reference (No 4 of 2002)13, from which the following principle may be distilled. a) The Defendant has a right to a fair trial, b) The Presumption of innocence is an important but not an absolute right and so derogations from the principle are permitted. c) The ECHR require a balance to be struck between the rights of the individual and wider interests

Jeffery Dahmer Case Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Jeffery Dahmer Case - Essay Example In September 1987 he killed once again. His second victim was Steven Toumi who he met in a gay bar and indulged in heavy drinking with. Dahmer admits to have no memory of the murder itself but recalls waking up to Toumi being dead and having blood on his mouth. Fourteen year old Jamie Doxtator, a Native American boy, was Dahmerââ¬â¢s third victim. He also marks the establishment of Dahmerââ¬â¢s modus operandi. Dahmer would visit bars in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he would, after thorough observation, pick up young men. Mostly pretending to be a photographer he offered these men money to pose for him and lured them into his apartment. Sometimes he would offer them money to hang-out and watch a movie. Once there he would drug their drinks and strangle them when they were unconscious. John Douglas, a full-time profiler working at the behavioural science division of the FBI in Quantico, defined Dahmerââ¬â¢s signature as one that showed his sadistic sexual satisfaction and contr ol projected by living with his victimââ¬â¢s corpses. Examples of such behaviour were that of necrophilia, cutting up his victims and cannibalizing certain parts like the heart, painting the skulls to keep as souvenirs and storing a victimââ¬â¢s head in his fridge. (Douglas, 1997). Sticking to this developed pattern Dahmer killed 5 more men by the summer of 1988 one of who was a Richard Gurrero, handsome young man of Mexican origin. All these murders took place in Dahmerââ¬â¢s grandmotherââ¬â¢s basement.

Individual Project Criminal Evidence Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Individual Project Criminal Evidence - Essay Example It is a basic rule of evidence that when the terms of an agreement have reduced to writing, it is considered as containing all the terms agreed upon, and there can be, as between the parties, no evidence of such term other than the contents of the written agreement per se. A classic example of a documentary evidence is a contract. Parol or oral evidence refers to the testimony of a witness made before the judicial court. An example of this type of evidence is the testimony of the victim in a rape case. One of the popular cases in Canada where DNA testing was allegedly used was the case of Dr. John Schneeberger. The latter is a doctor who raped one of his sedated patients in 1992 and intentionally left semen on the victim's underwear. The police immediately got blood samples from Schneeberger's blood and compared the same the DNA to the DNA from the semen found at the crime scene on three different occasions. However, the matching proved to be negative. It was found out later on thru other evidence that Dr. John Schneeberger inserted a Penrose drain into his own arm thru surgery and then filled the same with a foreign blood and anticoagulants. Anticoagulants is a type of drug that prevents the clotting of the blood while a Penrose drain, according to Wikipedia, is a surgical device placed in a wound to drain and prevent the build up of fluid. This in turn resulted to the degradation of the value of DNA evidence in criminal cases since DNA samples may be faked and planted, just like in Schneeberger case. In this case, the DNA sample, although previously admitted by the court, failed to prove the suspicions earlier made by the police authorities. DNA evidence is a real or object evidence since it is a material evidence that is addressed directly to the senses of the court. Although logically, judges and justices may not appreciate its value without the corresponding interpretation and testimony of scientists expert in the field, it can stand alone in court as evidence and therefore maintains its classification as a real or object evidence. In most states in the United States, DNA evidence are admissible in court even without the corresponding expert testimony. However in some jurisdictions, the expert testimony plays a big role in determining the admissibility of DNA as evidence. Personally, I do not agree with the use of DNA as evidence in proving the guilt or innocence of an accused. There are relevant scientific studies where it was concluded that DNA testing is not 100% perfect although the ratio of its reliability reaches one is to 5 million. Criminal prosecution is totally different from civil ones. It is the life and liberty of the accused which is at stake. It has been said that it is better to leave a criminal free rather than punish an innocent man. In this case, no matter how small the percentage of the probable mistake may be committed in the DNA testing and studies, the same cannot justify prosecution and persecution of innocent people. It is totally different however in using DNA testing as a means of proving paternity, for example, as the same is civil in nature. Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), although widely accepted in courts, are still subject to human mistakes such as the lack of control

Extensional definition Essay Example for Free
Extensional definition Essay Success, a word that has a very subjective and ever changing definition. To many success is measured with the amount of cars one has or the size of ones house; to others success is just thriving with what is available. Although success has many different meanings across the world there is two that stick out; Thriving with what you have at your disposal, and being able to live comfortably and without any worries. If one was to ask a child that lives in California what is their definition of success; he/she would probably answer, success is having a lot of cars and a big house. This is generally what people in westernized countries define success as. But if you were to ask a child in a farming town in China what he/she would define success as. The answer would be, to make it through life with enough food and survive. This is what the definition of success use to be everywhere before there was so many amenities in life. The definition has changed drastically, and has evolved with the economy. Thriving with what you have at your disposal is what everyone does but some have much less than others and vise versa. This is one definition that has stuck with word throughout time; but is interpreted in many different ways. The other definition of success that sticks out is that success means being able to live comfortably and without any worries. A very close family friend has said this many times ââ¬Å"Being a successful dentist has its perks, I donââ¬â¢t have to worry about anything besides my practice and it is a very comfortable lifestyle.â⬠This gave me a new perspective on what the definition of success was at a young age. He unwittingly taught me that success is making life as comfortable and as worry free as possible. To do this one would think they need copious amounts of money to do this but that is wrong. Many people try to live outside of their means to make them look like they are successful but doing this they are actually doing more harm to their success than helping it. One does not need to make a six figure salary to have success. What one need is the right mind set, which is not to live outside of your means and everything you are not doing to better yourself isà harming your success in the long run. For example one does not need to take a loan out on a car, spend what you already have. doing this will instill upon you to not spend outside of what you have. Success, there are countless definitions for the word. The two that stand out are both subjective definitions, and they are completely different. Thriving with what you have at your disposal, and to be able to live comfortably and worry free. The definition of success changes with the economy and the living standards of the world. At the end success is what you make it.

Why Cats Are Bad Pets Essay Example for Free
Why Cats Are Bad Pets Essay In ancient Egypt, they held cats up high for poise and grace; they even had a goddess cat, named Bast (Bastet). When Egyptians lost their cat, they would mourn as if they lost a family member. To kill a cat, even accidentally, was an automatic death sentence. Cats were believed to be guardians of the gates of hell, and to prevent demons, ghouls, and spirits from escaping, and prevent them from entering homes of humans. So why people find this animal cute, adorable, and friendly is beyond me. Who would want a pet that was held up to be a god? That people have killed over and treated like a human? That is associated with hell and all its demons? Animals arenââ¬â¢t human, so these cats should be treated exactly like pets. Not equals, not ââ¬Å"manââ¬â¢s best friendâ⬠, but an animal. You canââ¬â¢t take them everywhere with you like you can a dog, and if you leave them home, they may pee everywhere, claw up the couch, get into everything they shouldnââ¬â¢t, and make a ridiculous mess. Cats are a bit messy. They like to sleep everywhere, and leave their hair of the couch cushions, curtains, comforter, and your clothes. They walk on your ledges, and if you have picture frames, candles, or any type of dà ©cor, they will knock it over. Itââ¬â¢s just a given, youââ¬â¢ll come home to your things on the floor. It seems like every time youââ¬â¢re walking, or in the kitchen, they are right there by your feet, weaving too and fro as you are trying to get from one place to the other. Itââ¬â¢s almost like they are trying to kill you. They have no respect for your personal space. If youââ¬â¢re sitting on one end of the couch, taking up only one cushion, they will feel obliged to jump up on your lap and stay there till you have to move. If you do move, and come back, good luck getting back on their good side, because they want nothing to do with you. They have a lot of diva in them. One minute they want every little bit of your attention, and the next they want nothing to do with you and will hiss if you as much as reach your hand out to them. Because of this attitude, they will choose to completely ignore you, even when called by name. They are worse than women going through menopause. Sure, you donââ¬â¢t have to bathe a cat like you do a dog. And that can be very time consuming and expensive, especially if your dog has allergic reactions to certain substances and chemicals, but who wants to let a cat lick you, knowing where their tongue has been? Itââ¬â¢s just disgusting, filthy, and sickening. While itââ¬â¢s nice to not have to bath them, during each cleaning they ingest a small amount of hair and it accumulates until it grows into a wet hairball that they need to cough up on your expensive wood flooring, your new carpet, or your bed. Another nasty habit with cats is spraying. When an un-neutered male cat feels threatened, he will spray urine everywhere, as a way of marking his territory, and claiming whatââ¬â¢s his. They donââ¬â¢t care where they spray. They will go all over your house if they want to. Who wants your cat leaving their stench on your couch, bed, floor, clothes, etc.? Not me. How many people do you see taking their cat with them on car rides? Or having a nice walk in the park? Absolutely no one. If youââ¬â¢ve ever brought your cat in the car, you know how loud, annoying and horrible it is, not only for them but you as well. The whole time, all you hear is their pitiful meow from the carrier, which is in the very back, covered in blankets to drown out the ear-splitting screeches. Trying to get them to go on a walk with you is like dragging a brick. They donââ¬â¢t want to leave the comfort of their home. Dogs on the other hand, love to go on walks, car rides are a special treat for them. They will play with you, train them to do tricks, and even dress them up for Halloween. Sure you have to give them a bath every now and then, but would you prefer to have a companion as a pet, or one that acts like a temper tantrum throwing toddler?
Should Combat Sports be Banned?
Should Combat Sports be Banned? 1. Should physical combat sports be banned? Ans: Introduction: Combat sports have been in existence in different forms for more than 2000 years. With high risks prevailing is such sports and the nature of aggression demonstrated on the sporting arena, ethical issues have come up whether in a modern civilized society there is a place of such activities. Measures have been adopted to minimise the risks to participants yet the demonstration of skills in such thrilling fashion has been under criticism. There are both bright and dark sides of these sports but whether to eliminate them or not is the major debate. Definition of Combat Sports: Combat sports may be defined as sports wherein two individual combatants fight each other using fighting techniques according to a set of prearranged rules. Competitors use different techniques in different forms of Combat Sports, but the objective of any contest is to subdue the opponent. The question arises here that is it ethical to allow such a sport where the main intension is to harm your opponent. The Dark Side of Combat Sports: The first thing that strikes into ones mind while saying about the dark sides of such sports is morality. 1. Morality: As said earlier, is it morally correct for one human being to attempt intentionally to harm the brain of the other as in boxing. It might be true that reckless tackles are made in sports like American football, Soccer, ice hockey etc and also body line bowling prevails in cricket which sometimes result in serious injuries but one does not win the game by doing so. Where as in physical combat sports one can win only by hurting the opponent and that too so seriously that the opponent cannot continue to take part in the game anymore. 2. Impact on society: The impact of such sports on the society can be viewed in two different ways. Combat sports practice: Evidence of unlicensed boxing events exist where violence has reached its extremities but it may be argued that a sport, which is explicitly a stimulation of actual combat and which has clearly defined boundaries is less of a threat to the social order than such evidences. Another issue evolved which argued if participation in a combat sport results in increase of violence and aggression in a human being. But different researches have shown increase in social and emotional awareness among the participants. Viewing Combat sports: The effect of excessive media exposure of combat sports does have a positive impulse of violence in some people but for the vast majority of the population exposure to aggression and violence as a passive spectator is considered to have negligible impact on peoples social behaviour. The Value of Combat Sports: Notwithstanding the violent nature of combat sports, ââ¬Å"goodâ⬠can be found in them just like any other sport. Any form of combat sport has the potential to improve physical health and well being. Higher physical competence and ability to defend ones own self can be considered as the positive side of combat sports. Combat sports can also acts as a medium of self-expression and human bonding. Contrary to popular belief, winning is not the sole objective of fighting contests. Value is given to what can be learnt from the opponent, be it in victory or defeat. Conclusion: Considering the fact that sport where the principal intent is to harm your opponent and with the high risk of fatalities and serious disabling injuries involved, the question arises both from the ethical and safety point of view as to whether or not combat sports be legally banned. In my opinion, before considering a legal ban and forcing the sport underground, each combat sport should be given the opportunity to review its rules for competition. For example, fighting within predetermined weight class, only one fight per night etc.

Cloning :: essays research papers
Why ban cloning? For one, the many deformed, stillborn, diseased and dead animals created on the way to making Dolly. As must as weââ¬â¢re being told that human cloning is just around the corner, in fact, even the scientists who are most successful at cloning have a very poor track record making cloned animals. (5) Although cloning experts claim that their work would help infertile couples, the experience with animal cloning has shown that scientifically, the experiment generates ethical concerns just as it is still replete with a lot of risks for the offspring. There are reasonable grounds that urge caution about this new advance in genetic engineering without being techno-phobic. (3) Already human cloning violates existing laws in some countries while in some other countries such as United Kingdom where human cloning is not yet banned legally, the government is contemplating legislating against it for reproductive purposes. Cloning for therapeutic reasons is allowed in UK on a limited scale. The outrage against human cloning is some places are such that in Italy the medical authorities are considering withdrawing Dr. Anthinoriââ¬â¢s license if he insists on the practice. (3) In an Illinois Republicanââ¬â¢s judgment, ââ¬Å"It is critical that both state and federal lawmakers look carefully at upcoming legislation to ban cloning to ensure that scientific advances which may sure fatal diseases are protected. (2) Congressmen observes, that no one really knows what discoveries might yet be made in treating debilitating diseases as the human cloning issue is aired and determined by congress. (2) Florida introduced the banning of cloning, but then quickly withdrew because it would have banned cloning of humans and the cloning of DNA. Many do not want cloning to be totally banned because it is important to innovative scientific research, which may spin off from the cloning technique. (2) Cloning for ultimate medical purposes should be contained to animals and agriculture, and not be extended to humans. Congress takes attention to carefully and cautiously takes part in crafting cloning legislation that precludes cloning humans. (2) President Clinton and a number of congressional members already have nixed human cloning. ââ¬Å"No longer can it be done, but should it be done? Are there potential outcomes for medicines that are worth exploring?

Eleven 7 vs FIFA2004 :: Soccer Video Games Essays
Eleven 7 vs FIFA2004 Koreans are never going to forget what happened in the summer of 2002. The South Korean soccer team entered the world cup semifinals. Prior to this, the South Koreans had never passed the first round. The Koreans became the first Asian team to make the semifinals in the world cup. Since that time, I have enjoyed playing soccer related games. Because I like to play video games I spend a lot of time playing two soccer games for PlayStation2 (PS2). They are Winning Eleven 7 (WE7) and FIFA 2004, which are two of the most popular soccer games ever. WE7 is the most recent version of the popular Winning Eleven series. It is created by Konami, a Japanese company which is known around the world. The international version of the game came out in February 2004. It has many upgrades compared to the previous version, Winning Eleven 6, which was also very popular. FIFA 2004 is developed by Electronic Arts (EA), a California based entertainment software developer. Released in November 2003, it is a refined version of the well-reviewed FIFA 2003. Comparisons of these two games are discussed next. It is important to know what to look at when evaluating a soccer game. Some criteria commonly used are game play, graphics, sounds and team variety. Game play can be considered the most important one, since most customers who buy a sport video game expect it to be as close as possible to the real game. The graphics are also related to the realism of the game. Great graphics can cover up for a little drawback in other fields. Thirdly, sound effects, crowd noise and commentaries help the players get drawn into the game as it becomes more realistic. Lastly, how many teams are available to be played can be the reason why consumers choose a soccer game. If they do not have the chance to play many countriesââ¬â¢ teams, they might get bored more easily with the game. The game play is concerned of WE7 is excellent. It is actually the strongest point of this game. Besides the fluid mechanical flow of the game, it also simulates the physical condition of a real game. Unlike other soccer games, scoring a goal is difficult as in real life.

Emily Dickinson: Transcendentalist Experience Through Imagination :: essays research papers
Emily Dickinson: Transcendentalist Experience Through Imagination à à à à à The early 19th century ideas of transcendentalism, which were introduced by Ralph Emerson and David Thoreau, where man as an individual becomes spiritually consumed with nature and himself through experience are contrasted by Emily Dickinson, who chose to branch off this path by showing that a transcendentalist experience could be achieved through imagination alone. These three monumental writers set the boundaries for this new realm of thought. Although these writers ideas were not similar, they all followed the simple idea that ââ¬Å"the universe is composed of Nature and the Soulâ⬠. The male perspective seen through the works of Thoreau and Emerson, where nature ââ¬Å"refers to essences unchanged by man; the air, the river, the leafâ⬠, is revised and satirized by Dickinson's statement that ââ¬Å"Of all the Souls that stand create-, I have elected- Oneâ⬠. Dickinson's works were meant to taunt society by showing how a woman, ironically trapped in her ââ¬Å"naturalâ⬠surroundings of the home, could obtain as much power, if not more than any male writer. This ironic revisions of ideas is directed at all male transcendentalists and figures in society. à à à à à Both Ralph Emerson and David Thoreau used societies stereotype of the true male environment, ââ¬Å"natureâ⬠, to draw their power and write from their experiences. Experience was the most important factor to these writers. The ability ââ¬Å"to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account in my next excursionâ⬠was the basis of all their writings. ââ¬Å"To get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the whole worldâ⬠was their goal behind all their writings. They did not use their power of writing in order to gain a transcendentalist experience, but rather to record them. Both Emerson and Thoreau chose to contact their true natural surroundings, and experience time alone in the ââ¬Å"woodsâ⬠. By being ââ¬Å"in solitudeâ⬠, it brought forth a conciseness that ââ¬Å"all natural objects make a kindred impression, when the mind is open to their influenceâ⬠. à à à à à Mans views of nature being rightfully his, to do with what he wants, is harshly contrasted by Emerson, who feels that ââ¬Å"Nature sais,-He is my creatureâ⬠. Emerson felt that man, corrupted by society, can over power the fate of over looking his true meaning. Escaping from the wheel of society into ââ¬Å"the woods, is perpetual youthâ⬠. By living in the woods, he found that fusing nature with soul, one can accomplish anything. à à à à à Emerson felt that nature was an extension of five of his senses, where he could feel the tree moving in the wind as if it was his own body.

Balanced Scorecard
As mentioned in the introduction above, different business types bring a significant different treatment of strategic business control and evaluation. Consider for example, a firm that produce sheets of paper. The production processes are well defined and relatively stable, functional skills are specialized to gain operating efficiencies. There are relatively no strict challenge from the same competitor, because the market share are divided equally, as long as they keep the productions quality and maintain the cheapest cost of production.Regardless of whether the environment is stable or dynamic, an organization needs to exercise control over its operations so that its objectives are achieved as preliminary business planning. Firm that operate in a stable environment with standardized products and processes and low competitive pressures will employ the less complex functional business strategic. While the more complex firm with the dynamic competitor pressure should be consider to em ploy the more complex strategic control system (Shaw, 2004).Concerning the development of strategic control over a corporation, this paper will discuss about the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) for a company named ââ¬ËPuppy Luv Doggy Day Careââ¬â¢. Furthermore, it also develops at least three strategic objectives for each of the four Balanced Scorecard areas (Financial, Customer, Process, and Learning & Growth). 2. Balanced Score Card of Puppy Luv Doggy Day Care 2. 1. Balanced Score Card The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is one of the most influential business ideas in the 20th century. It was noted that over one-half of the fortune 1,000 uses the BSC system (Niven, 2006). Some people consider it as a form of project management, a form of measurement or controlled improvement system. Despite the awesome popularity of the concept, we witnessed the practice of the BSC concept surprisingly concentrates on the private sectors. Robert Kaplan and David Norton first introduced the Balanced Scorec ard in the early 1990ââ¬â¢s as a strategic management system that forces managers to focus on the important performance metrics that lead to success. There are four perspectives of BSC as following: 1. Financial perspective This is the standard perspective that everyone uses even before the BSC. Even a non-profit organization uses this perspective in order to balance their books. It measures financial performances through financial ratios and other financial indicators. In the case of Puppy Luv Doggy Day Care, the financial perspective includes strategic objectives in following areas: ? Market share ? Revenues and costs ? Profitability? Competitive position 2. Customer Perspective It is a measure of corporate value viewed from the value it delivers to customers. For instance, time taken to process a phone call, result of customersââ¬â¢ surveys, number of complaints, competitive rankings, etc. In the case of Puppy Luv Doggy Day Care, the Customer Value Perspective includes strat egic objectives in following areas: ? Customer retention or turnover ? Customer satisfaction ? Customer value 3. Business Process PerspectiveIt measures corporate value from the enhancement of its business processes, like time spent prospecting, quality cost, product rework required, etc. In the case of Puppy Luv Doggy Day Care, Process or Internal Operations Perspective includes strategic objectives in following areas: ? Measure of process performance ? Productivity or productivity improvement ? Operations metrics 4. Learning and Growth Perspective This perspective measures corporate value from its learning abilities or the progress of its learning processes.Example of activities measures are staff training, employee suggestion and improvement of certain processes as an outcome of the learning process (ââ¬ËBalanced Scorecardââ¬â¢, 2006). In the case of Puppy Luv Doggy Day Care, the Learning and Growth (Employee) Perspective includes strategic objectives in following areas: ? Employee satisfaction ? Employee turnover or retention ? Level of organization capability ? Nature of organization culture or climate ? Technological innovation These perspectives are then adaptable to various businesses by choosing different drivers for each perspective. The BSC can also detect and measure correlation between activities, in order to help decide which activities positively impacted others. For instance an online customer service can help reducing telephone calls and time to handle complaints, thus increasing effectiveness of business processes. According to Kaplan and Norton, there are various utilities of the Balance Scorecard. Some of them are: to clarify and update strategy, communicate strategy, align unit goals with corporate strategy, link strategic objectives to long term target, etc (ââ¬ËBalanced Scorecardââ¬â¢, 2006). Balanced Scorecard The balance scorecard is a management tool that is used by the management of companies to enable them in planning on how to align the business activities to the vision and strategy of the organization so as to improve the internal and external processes of the company. Communication is used to monitor the organization performance against the strategic goals that have been set by the management of the organization. The balance scorecard was first developed by Dr Robert Kaplan and David Norton who discovered that the tool would be used to measure the performance of the employees of the company so that they would improve on their performance it was used by the management of companies so as to clarify the vision and the strategies and then to translate them into action. According to some economist they noted that an organization was viewed into four perspectives as per the balanced scorecard. The Learning and growth perspectiveThis perspective that deals with how the employees can be trai ned in order for them to gain the knowledge and skills that can enable them carry out their activities effectively. It also deals with the corporate cultural attitudes that relate to both the individual and corporate self-improvement so that the attitude for each the individuals and the corporations would change so that they would perform their activities according to the needs of the organization and not for their own interests. There had been increased technological changes that have resulted to the management of the organization to train their employees so that they can adapt to those technological, economic and social-economic changes. The business process perspective The perspective deals with the internal business processes. The metric allows the managers of an organization to learn how well their businesses are run and whether the products and services of the company can conform to the customer tastes and preferences There are two kinds of processes that are used when determini ng the goals of a company these are mission oriented processes and the support processes. The mission-oriented processes are used in measurement of the employeeââ¬â¢s performances so as to ward them according to their skills and responsibilities. The processes are usually used in the government offices. The customer perspective The recent research showed that customers contributed to the success of the company and therefore it is important to satisfy their needs because incase they do not get satisfied with the services of their suppliers or traders they can look for alternative suppliers who could meet their needs and this can pose to be a big challenge to the marketing department as the volume of sales of the company can be affected negatively. The management should learn how to satisfy their customers needs by identifying the different types of customers and their different tastes and preferences so that the right kind of products and services are produced for them so as to main tain the customers and also to increase the earnings of the company by providing the right of goods and services that are acceptable to the customers. The financial perspective It is important for the management of organization to provide timely and accurate records of data so that they can give the true financial position of a company. The implementation of corporate databases it can enhance proper centralization and automation of information that can enhance proper recording of the transactions into the financial statements so that proper analysis of the company can be made. The Tri-cities community Bank was a company that was located in the Midwest United States; it had ten branches that were grouped into divisions that is the southern Division (SD) and Northern Division (ND). The divisions consisted of five branches that were headed by a Branch President and a Branch Chief Loan Officer. The other staffs that managed the operations of the company were the customer service represent atives, loan representatives, mortgage loan originators, head tellers and the administrative assistants. Mrs. Chris Billing was the Southern Division (SD) president from a Marketing Director because she could improve the performance of the company since she had acquired the necessary skills from college about how to improve the performance of the company. In the year 2000 she implemented the balanced scorecard into the organization although there were protests from the Northern Division (ND) presidents who saw the implementation of the strategy as impossibility since they had not had about the strategy before and was not ready for change. Branch A According to the Customer Service Representative of Tri Cites Community Bank Mrs.Mary Richards, she stated that the implementation of the balanced scorecards would create greater loan volume for the loan balances, deposits and the certificates of deposit and this would lead to lower profit margin, but it would be beneficial to the companyâ â¬â¢s growth. According to Mike Moore she stated the measures of the balanced scorecard were realistic, but the implementation of the measures was difficult because it was the first time for the employees to use them thus getting to learn the measures would mean creation of more time to train all the staff about the implementation of the performance measures.According to Paul Franks he stated that since the employees carried out their activities while using the measures then they would earn more cash bonuses, which improve the companyââ¬â¢s performance and also the living standards of the employees of the company if they used the measures since proved good returns to the company once they utilized them appropriately. Branch B Mrs.Pamela Wise the loan representative of branch B said that the measures would be used to measure the progress of the company while in the process of trying to achieve its goals and objectives as this would lead to meeting the needs of the community and also to increase the profitability of the company. The measures would be used in determining the right kinds of promotions and pay rises for the employees, they would also be used to assign the employees according to their skills and knowledge so as to ensure the duties and responsibilities of the company were carried out effectively.Branch C Mr. Bill Sovensen stated that the balanced scorecard measures would promote teamwork among the tellers, loan officer and the customer service representatives such that they would enable them to discuss the goals of the organization and also be in a position to understand the activities of the bank so as to promote effective implementation of the companyââ¬â¢s goals and objectives. The scorecard measures would enable the management of the company to achieve goals such as selling, cross-selling, and the goal of making customers to feel comfortable with the services of the bank. The Administrative Assistant Mr. Luo Martin said the balanced score card measures would lead to the successful implementation of the goals and objectives of a company. The success of the company would led to the management to organization of recreational places that would be used to appreciate the efforts of the employees so as to motivate them to work harder in their duties and responsibilities and also to avoid employee turnover as it could affect the reputation and performance of the company. Branch B According to Mr.Gray Smith he stated that the balanced scorecards were important but it was important for the management of the company to choose measures that were relevant to the managementââ¬â¢s growth. Mr. Al Taylor stated that the measures would lead to achievement of the companyââ¬â¢s goals. Branch E The balanced scorecard would be used to compare the performance of the company with other companies so that the company could keep track of the companyââ¬â¢s performance so that the right measures could be put in place in order to enable the company to compete effectively with its competitorIt was noted that in order for the organization to improve in its performance it had to the implement the four perspectives of the balanced scorecard into its organization these were financial measures, customer measure, internal business measures and the retention measures and the learning and the growth perspective. The management of the company Northern Division should have implemented the balanced scorecard into the company in order for it to achieve its goals and objectives. The benefits of the perspectives were that if one perspective was good then other would also improve, for example if the internal perspective improved then the internal processes would also improve. If the customers were satisfied with the services that they needed then they would continue to purchase the companyââ¬â¢s products and also use their services and this would boost the performance of the company .The sales volume of the company would improve if the companyââ¬â¢s financial status improved then the management of the company would be in a position to achieve its strategies successfully, if the companyââ¬â¢s strategy would be good then this would be translated to increased returns for the company and the application of the financial measures would be done in an effective and efficient manner. It was reported that if the employees were trained about sales effectiveness, customer service, product profitability and local bank knowledge, they would be in a better position to serve their customers since the knowledge and skills acquired would enable them to gain relevant experience of how to improve the performance of the company. The management of the bank also noted that the training programs given to the employees such as the in house tests on various training topics, higher-quality referrals and cross-self proposals they would equip the employees with right techniques to handle the companyââ¬â¢s activities. The imple mentation of the programs would lead to higher customer satisfaction and it would also lead to the management of the company to learn more techniques of retaining their customers so as to achieve high sales volume of the companyââ¬â¢s products and services. The Effects Of Tourism In Kenya
It has been brought to my attention that you have become concerned about the level of economic development in Kenya. To help solve this problem I have prepared a report in which I have come up with a solution to the problem. After thoroughly researching different methods to increase the economy, I have come to a conclusion that tourism is the best alternative to increase the wealth of Kenya. In my report I will be discussing if tourism should be encouraged in Kenya. I will be looking at the different options of tourism, including the tourist opportunities, the advantages and disadvantages and the people who will benefit from it and those that may be affected. I hope my report will be helpful and effective, please do not hesitate to contact me if u have any queries. Thank you. Neha Bharadia Facts Of Kenya * Kenya is located in Eastern Africa, it is found between Somalia and Tanzania. * The total area it covers is 582,650 kmà ¯Ã ¿Ã ½. 13,400 kmà ¯Ã ¿Ã ½ of this area is water, which leaves 569,250 kmà ¯Ã ¿Ã ½ to be covered by land * The total population is 31, 138,738 ââ¬â Excess mortality expected due to AIDS, this results in lower life expectancy, higher infant mortality and death rates, lower population and growth rates, and changes in the distribution of population by age and sex than would otherwise be expected. * The population growth rate is 1.15% * The highest point in Kenya is Mount Kenya which is 5,199m * The natural resources available are gold, limestone, soda ash, salt barites, rubies, fluorspar, garnets, wildlife and hydropower. * Land use (see chart 2): 7.03% ââ¬â Arable land 0.91% ââ¬â Permanent crops 92.06% ââ¬â Other * Natural hazards that occur in Kenya are: reoccurring drought and flooding during rainy seasons. * The Languages spoken in Kenya are mainly English, Swahili and Kishwahli, however there are also many other various languages spoken. * The literacy rate of the entire population is 78.17%. 86.3% of all males are literate and 70% of all females are literate. * The climate varies from tropical along the coast to arid in the centre. Graphs Showing Climate in Nairobi Chart 1 Chart 3 Chart 2 Tourism in Kenya You can read also Classifications of Restaurants Most tourists are attracted to visiting Kenya because of the wildlife parks or the coastline of the Indian Ocean. People often go on holidays in Kenya, as it is something different from normal beach holidays in Europe, which prove to be very popular with tourists. Visitors to Kenya can go on various different types of safaris, as there are many different national parks and areas where wildlife can be seen. Kenya has a total of twenty-six National Parks and twenty-nine National Reserves. All of them occupy a total area of 44,359 sq. kilometres. They range from marine national parks, savannah-bush woodland national parks, mountain national parks, arid and semi-arid national parks, to lake ecosystem national parks/reserves. The ââ¬Ëbig five' can be seen in all the national parks, these are Elephants, Rhinoceros, Buffalos, Lions, and Leopards. These are the five animals people most look forward to seeing as there are become rare species and can only be seen in certain parts of the world. The marine parks are famous for their beautiful coral reefs, coral gardens, beaches and lagoons, brightly patterned coral fishes e.g. Angel fish, Parrot fish, Starfish, Sea urchins, lovely porcelain cowries, Green turtles, Octopus, Dugong and big game fish like Blue marlin, Sail fish, Giant fish, Giant grouper and Marko sharks. Kenya also accommodates the greatest crocodile colony in the world at Sibiloi National Park, and the world's largest number of flamingos at Lake Nakuru National Park. Tourists can also visit Bamburi; this is an old cement works, which has been made into an ecosystem. This transformation would have been successful without the money from tourism, and is now a tourist titration itself. Another popular place for tourists to visit is Mount Kenya, it stands as the highest point in Kenya, and tourists can visit while on safaris. Tourists also enjoy visiting the Masai tribes; they are a group of nomadic herders who move around Kenya to where the rainy season is. They like to perform shows for the tourists for which they receive money. There are also many outdoor activities that people can participate in such as; camel racing, mountaineering, golf safari and white water rafting. However despite the beautiful scenery and excitingly unusual experience tourism is rapidly dropping on Kenya (See graph below). This could be due to the fact that much of the Kenyan wildlife is being destroyed especially by tourists themselves. The Advantages of Tourism * Tourism brings in a lot Kenya's income, as chart 1 shows most of Kenya's income is through services. A big part of these services rely on tourists, this includes things such as hotels, restaurants, entertainment, gift shops as these as things that locals do not usually spend money on. * Many jobs are created for locals in hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions. Many people in Kenya are illiterate (21.83% as shown in the research above) so this gives them opportunities to earn good money without having to do a complicated job. * Tourism can help locals and people of Kenya to try and preserve the area so it will remain attractive to tourists. * Things such as airports, roads, and water and electricity supplies will be improved, this can also benefit the locals as well as the tourists. * Tourism can also mean that local tradition and culture will be preserved in order to keep tourists interested in something new. * Tour operators pay the Maasai tribes people to entertain the tourists, and plus they receive extra money from any tourists who are generous enough to give them tips. * Kenya has become famously known around the world, for its luscious scenery and its wide range of wildlife. * The main people that benefit from tourism are; the service providers and local staff (tour operators, hotel staff, shops selling souvenirs), and tourists themselves as they get to enjoy an excellent holiday. * Local people get some knowledge of other countries, traditions and cultures as people from many different countries visit Kenya (see chart 3). Most locals are not fortunate enough to travel to other countries, so tourism gives them an opportunity to learn about other people. *à The Disadvantages of Tourism * Tourists are a hazard to the natural environment. They cause harms such as footpath and soil erosion, pollution problems caused by litter, noise and waste in rivers and the sea, land is wasted to build road, hotel, airport and luxuries for tourists to enjoy. Tourists leave the country in a mess, which the locals then have to suffer for in the future. The beautiful and peaceful surroundings get ruined which can then cause potential tourism to be affected. * There are only certain seasons where tourists can visit, this is usually summer, and so for the rest of the year many locals are short on work or even out left with no work. The jobs are also of low status and poorly paid, as they are not very skilled jobs, many of the employees have to get more than one job to support their families. * In the national parks tourists demand to see the animals from a close view, this disturbs the animals. * A lot of the money brought in through tourism does not end up helping the country; only 15% of the money spent on a holiday reaches Kenya. * Land is use to build developments on which mean people like farmers, fishermen and small businesses can lose their land and therefore be left without work. * As Kenya is a LEDC it suffers more from tourism than MEDCs because they lack human expertise and money, which makes them less effective than MEDCs. * The local culture may not be preserved but forgotten if locals are more willing to favour towards western tourists than to keep their traditions. They will want to please tourists and change to suit their needs. * Tourists do not respect the traditions and values of the Kenyan people; they can be disrespectful towards the people and towards their beliefs. * The Maasai tribes people have been thrown off their land and only been given a small amount of space to herd their cattle and plant their crops. * The Maasai are also tricked b the tour operators into entertaining for a chap price, although they charge a lot more for tourists to visit them. * Clean water supplies are used up by tourists, leaving only a small amount for locals. * The main people that suffer from the affects of tourism are; locals who feel their authority is not respected by tourists, and the Maasai, who do not get compensated enough for tourists using their land A Solution The problems of tourism can, in some cases, be solved in a way that all people can benefit. The main solution would be to use ââ¬Ëgreen tourism' in Kenya. This is where tourism is environmentally friendly. There are many ways of bringing eco-tourism about; these are some of the ways. * There will be a special path for safaris; only certain types of cars can travel on these. * Tourists will not be allowed to walk around the parks, even if they are accompanied. * Tourists must not get too close to the animals or disturb them in any way. * They must not litter or cause any type of pollution. * The Maasai must receive at least half the profit made from any tour operators, and must be paid for the land that it is being used by tourists. * Tourists must respect the traditions and laws of Kenya, this includes being proper dressed at all times and following the rules given to them. * Money made from tourism should go towards paying staff and developing the environment of the country. * Only small parts of the land should be used to development tourism. * The locals should be respected, this means still being able to have a good water supply and not being over-run by tourists. If these needs can be met by both the Kenyan government and the tourists, the tourism will not only help the country's economy but will also preserve the environment. By introducing this type of tourism in Kenya it will help everyone by the following ways. * The environment will be preserved; this will help in the sustainable development of tourism in the country. The animals will be kept safe and unharmed, as well as the greenery and other surroundings. * The locals will benefit because the country can be developed with the income of tourism. * Tourist will be able to enjoy their holiday, while still being able to secure the country for tourism in the future. * The Maasai will be able to get the kind of money they deserve. Conclusion Should tourism be encouraged in Kenya? After analysing many pieces of evidence, it is obvious that tourism plays a large active role in the country's economy. It brings in a lot of the money, however there are many problems concerning this. One of the biggest problems is that the country is getting damaged in the process; this stops the sustainable development of tourism. Another major problem is that tourism is only seasonal, which means that tourism cannot be relied on as the main source of income. Although it can bring in more than most industries and agriculture, it cannot always be successful. One other problem is that is concerning the government is that most of the money spent by foreigners on holidays to Kenya does not actually reach the country itself. However if introducing eco-tourism solves the problem of tourists damaging the environment then everyone can enjoy tourism. The other two problems cannot really be solved drastically, but Kenya can still benefit from tourism. I believe that although Kenya is a good resort for tourism, so it should be encouraged under the rules of ââ¬Ëgreen tourism.' In spite of this it is still not consistent throughout the year, which mean Kenya also needs another major source of income. The Kenyan government should use the natural resources found on the land to their advantage, for example they could export the gold, rubies and other precious stones found in the country. This will guarantee them an income when the tourist season is not on.
Magna Carta the cornerstone of Modern Law
Magna Carta came from the Latin word ââ¬Å"Great Charterâ⬠, which was authorized by King John of England, which deals with governing of his subjects according to Feudalism. During feudalism, the relationship between kings and their barons orders the rights and duties of each subordinate. The king cannot make any legal actions such as imposing high taxes or any military services without consulting the barons. The Barons rebelled against King John causing a revolt in England; Magna Carta was a result of the negotiation within the rebel barons and the king. Magna Carta has 63 clauses which were issued to grant liberties to the church, to barons and tenants feudal rights. This promises that the King would be fair and just in enforcing his powers to the people. This became the ââ¬Å"balancing actâ⬠during the Kings times because this limits the power of the King towards its people. This gave fair provision to the barons and King to exercise his powers to a certain extent in order not to abuse to those that are of less status as they are. The people were given representations and were given fair rights as well. One of the most important clauses of the Magna Carta is the legal clause that states that justice will be serve appropriately and should not be delayed. This is one of the many adopted laws of the Modern Laws right now. Enforcement of Magna Carta is with utmost importance as this became the basis of the modern rights, one of which is taxation without representation. Due to this also the people were given rights to undergo a due process in which at recent is given to those that are trialed. There should be no conviction made unless the person accused has been proven guilty, there should be a fair trial and both sides of defendant and prosecutor is heard. Magna Carta is considered to be the liberty of the people as well as today for this granted them the right to be represented.

34 Easy High-Protein Breakfasts Thatll Help You Lose Weight
34 Easy High-Protein Breakfasts That'll Help You Lose Weight Jumpstart your results with the right breakfast. Eat breakfast. Eat protein. If youre trying to lose weightââ¬âor just eat and live a bit healthierââ¬âthose are two tips you shouldnt ignore. And, if you combine them by starting each day with a high-protein breakfast, well, youre pretty much unstoppable. Eating at least 30 grams of protein at breakfast can help you feel satisfied and feel less hungry later in the day, explains Amy Goodson, R.D., a registered dietitian and nutrition consultant based in Dallas, Texas. This is great for women looking to lose weight. The trick, she says, is that protein takes longer to digest than traditional carbohydrate-heavy breakfast foods like cereal or muffins. And the longer it takes to digest, the less hungry youll feel and the more youll be able to stick to your healthy eating goals. For example, in one recent study, people who started their days with between 30 to 39 grams of protein ended up eating 175 fewer calories at lunchtime. And, in one Nutrition Metabolism study, dieters who increased their protein intake so that they were getting 30 percent of their daily calories from protein lost about 11 pounds in 12 weeks. Still, if youve ever tried following a high-protein diet, you know that upping your protein intake isnt always easy especially if you dont have your recipe arsenal stocked with high-protein breakfast ideas. Thats why we asked nutrition experts to get creative and share their favorite high-protein breakfast ideas. Whether you like sweet or savory, exotic or comforting, vegan or paleo, on-the-go or sitting down, there is something everyone will love on this list. BLUEBERRY-ALMOND BAKED OATMEAL Oatmeal on its own is a delicious breakfast full of fiber and whole grains, but you can round it out and amp up the nutrition by adding flax meal, chia seeds, soy or almond milk, or protein powder, says Kimberly M. Neva, M.S., R.D., a dietitian and bariatric specialist at Loyola University Medical Center. Thats right, you can stir flavored or unflavored protein powder right into your oatmeal. Top with blueberries and almonds for extra fiber, healthy fats, and vitamins. OAT YOGURT CUPS Another option to increase the protein in your oatmeal is to add a couple of dollops of Greek yogurt, Neva says. Sprinkle with cinnamon for extra flavor. This pack 11 grams of protein per serving and is easy to take on the road with you, she says. Plus, you get filling fiber and healthy probiotics. MINI EGG FRITTATAS If eggs for breakfast sounds boring, try these individual frittatas, Neva says. Mix whole eggs and extra egg whites together with sautà ©ed vegetables. For even more protein, add some turkey sausage or cheese. Simply pour the mixture into muffin tins and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until you can insert a knife in them and it comes out clean (in a standard-size muffin tin, that will be about 20 to 25 minutes). These are a perfect option if youre not a morning person, as they can be made ahead and then reheated quickly on your way out the door, she adds. TURKISH FRIED EGG Looking for an exotic flavor? Try this modified version of a popular Turkish dish, courtesy of Marina Rà ¶sser, a nutritionist and recipe author. Sautà © red onion, garlic, frozen spinach, and sliced chili peppers in a little olive oil. Once the veggies are soft, add an egg or two and finish cooking. Top with full-fat Greek yogurt, lemon juice, salt. The combination creamy yogurt, fragrant olive oil, spicy chili and lemon is irresistible, she says. COTTAGE CHEESE BOWL When it comes to increasing your protein intake, low-fat cottage cheese is an option many people overlook. The nutrition, taste, cost, and ease of preparation make it a great addition to your breakfast rotation, Rà ¶sser says. (Note: Low-fat cottage cheese has more protein per serving than full-fat, although both are great options.) She recommends filling a bowl with cottage cheese, mixing in some beans, and topping with tomatoes, paprika, salt, pepper. CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER PORRIDGE Sometimes you just have to have something sweet for breakfast and with this simple dish you can have your protein and the taste you crave, Rà ¶sser says. Mix together cooked oats, natural peanut butter, dark cacao, and sweet banana. Top with yogurt or your choice of milk. MINTY QUARK SHAKE Never heard of quark? Its a German-style yogurt, similar to Greek yogurt, but with more protein and a texture like cheesecake. This thicker consistency makes it ideal for whipping up a decadent, creamy protein shake. And remember a protein shake doesnt always have to be sweet, Rà ¶sser adds. Her favorite concoction: Quark, cucumber, mint, a splash of milk, and a pinch of salt. SHASHUKA This egg, onion, and tomato dish is a breakfast staple in Israel. In fact, the name literally means breakfast, Rà ¶sser says. Simply cook a sauce of sliced onions, red bell peppers, tomatoes, and paprika. Place two cooked eggs on a slice of whole-grain bread and smother it in the sauce. Top with parsley leaves, chili flakes, salt, and pepper for more flavor. CRUNCHY SCRAMBLED EGGS Take your basic scrambled eggs to the next level by adding pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, flaxseeds, cherry tomatoes, and arugula. This combo adds protein, fiber, flavor, and a satisfying crunch to an otherwise ordinary dish, Rà ¶sser says. SMOKED SALMON TOAST Fish is an excellent breakfast food. Not only does it have a ton of protein, but the healthy omega-3 fats can help everything from your skin to your brain. Breakfast is all about simplicity, so Rà ¶sser recommends keeping things easy by buying smoked salmon or trout and eating it on whole-grain toast. Optional toppings include cottage cheese, grated horseradish, dijon mustard, chopped parsley, chopped dill, chopped chives, lemons, or salt and pepper. YOGURT PARFAIT Start your morning off right with a simple parfait made of yogurt, berries and muesli, suggests Sonja Kukuljian, Ph.D., R.D., group general manager nutrition at Freedom Foods. Muesli is a whole grain cereal often eaten uncooked. There are lots of variations, so pick one high in fiber and low in sugar; Kukuljian suggests one containing barley, since its got both fiber and protein. POACHED EGGS ON SOURDOUGH Put a twist on standard eggs by poaching an egg in a little vinegar, Kukuljian says. Add a slice of whole-grain sourdough toast (a source of pre- and probiotics) and a drizzle of olive oil, and youve got a healthy, filling meal. VEGAN PROTEIN MUFFINS Protein has an important place in the vegan diet, and you can still get plenty of it without ever touching an animal product, says Rebecca Cafiero, a certified holistic health and integrative nutritionist and a TEDx Speaker. Her favorite plant-based breakfast is muffins made by cooking gluten-free oats in pea protein milk and adding a dash of coconut oil, almond butter, flaxseed, cinnamon, and blueberries. Mix to muffin-batter consistency. You can eat it right then or scoop into muffin tins and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 20 minutes for a portable breakfast. (Hit the reset buttonââ¬âand burn fat like crazy with The 2 Week Diet: Melt Away 6 Pounds Unwanted Stubborn Body Fat in Just 14 Days) VEGAN SMOOTHIE Protein smoothies are a tried-and-true healthy breakfast, but vegans may feel left out of the smoothie love as they dont do whey or egg proteins. No problem, Cafiero says, there are plenty of vegan-friendly protein powders. She likes to blend brown rice and pea protein powder with coconut oil, flaxseed, pea protein milk, spinach, blueberries, and a small amount of stevia and cinnamon. This provides a healthy serving of protein along with vital fats, vitamins, fiber, and micronutrients. CRUSTLESS MINI QUICHES You cant go wrong with eggs and veggies in the morning, and you can get both in these grab-and-go crustless quiches, says Jennifer Clemente, M.S., a board-certified nutritionist. Simply mix eggs with any type of vegetables you likeââ¬âchopped sweet potato, asparagus, kale, and red onion are her favoritesââ¬âadd seasonings like garlic, sea salt, parsley, and cilantro. Bake in the oven until you can insert a knife in them and it comes out clean. These are loaded with fiber, protein and an incredibly wide range of nutrients including vitamins A, C, E, K, B1, B2, B6, and B12, as well as folate and chromium, she says. COLLAGEN SHAKE In the world of protein powders, collagen deserves more love, Clemente says. Collagen powder is pure protein thats cheap, flavorless, and dissolves well in shakes. She likes to blend it with plant milk, berries, chia seeds, and nut butter. The best part? Collagen is no ordinary proteinââ¬âit may help give you plump glowing skin, reduce joint pain, strengthen nails, hair and teeth, and can improve intestinal conditions and digestion, she adds. AMPED-UP AVOCADO TOAST Avocado toast is the trendiest breakfast food right now, and with good reason. It provides a healthy dose of fats and fiber. But it can be improved, says Alana Kessler, M.S., a certified dietitian nutritionist. Give yours a nutritional boost by adding an egg or two and a sprinkle of nutritional yeast. This adds filling protein and B vitamins. PROTEIN PANCAKES Now you can still have your favorite breakfast dish and get your protein too with this recipe, courtesy of Charlie Seltzer, M.D., a doctor specializing in weight loss. Simply blend until smooth 1/2 cup each of egg whites, oatmeal, and 1% cottage cheese along with 1 teaspoon baking soda. Cook the batter like a pancake [FOR HOW LONG?]. These pancakes may help lower your risk of cardiovascular disease and contain lots of protein for the number of calories. Plus, he promises that the finished product doesnt taste like eggs or cottage cheese! PROTEIN BREAKFAST SANDWICH When you hear breakfast sandwich, you probably think egg McMuffins. Seltzers sandwich recipe, however, packs in the protein and fiber for minimal calories without sacrificing taste. Start with a toasted high-fiber English muffin. Add an egg, a slice of cheese, and two slices of Canadian bacon or ham. Feel free to wrap it in wax paper if youre missing that fast-food feeling. EGGS-N-GREENS Leafy green vegetables are one of the best foods you can eat for your health, but most of us dont fancy them plain. So try them as a nest for eggs, as recommended by Brooke Alpert, R.D., author of The Diet Detox. Grab several large handfuls of greens (spinach, kale, mustard, etc.), and put in a hot pan. Stir until wilted, about one minute. Top with two eggs cooked to runny-yolked perfection. Add a little salt and pepper, and enjoy. OMELETTE How are we this far down the list and have not even mentioned the classic omelette yet? Consider it fixed. Omelettes are a great way to combine eggs with flavorful veggies, meats, and cheeses for a protein-packed nutritious breakfast. My favorite omelette is two eggs cooked with mushrooms, onions, and cheese, topped with basil and tomatoes, says Elin Ãâ"stman, Ph.D., nutrition researcher and founder of Good Idea. Eggs are a great source of protein, the different colored veggies are packed with polyphenols, and the cheese provides calcium and flavor. TOFU SCRAMBLE Surprise: Scrambles dont have to be eggs. You can still get the flavor and protein by subbing tofu in for eggs, says Shahzadi Devje, R.D., a certified diabetes educator. Not only does tofu provide protein, but its also a great source of calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc, she says. All you do is mash firm tofu and stir in a mixture of sautà ©ed onion, garlic, and red bell pepper (or your veggies of choice). Then cook on the stove. She recommends serving your scramble with either sprouted grain bread, roti, or breakfast potatoes. ALMOND BUTTER CRACKERS Want something simple, protein-packed, and filling that doesnt require any prep or cooking? Devjes favorite super-easy breakfast is rye crackers spread with almond butter and sprinkled with nuts and dried fruits. Add a glass of soy milk and you have a serving of protein in less time than it takes you to look up a recipe. VANILLA ALMOND CHIA PUDDING Chia seeds are packed with protein and fiber, but thats not what makes them specialââ¬âfoodies love them for their ability to add a pudding-like texture to sweet treats. Try this recipe from LA-based dietitian, Danielle Judson: Combine 3 tablespoons chia seeds with 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any other plant-based milk of choice), 2 tablespoons almond butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and a dash of cinnamon in a mason jar. Stick the entire thing in the fridge overnight. In the morning, add a sprinkle of blueberries and almonds, and youve got breakfast pudding to go. CHOCOLATE POMEGRANATE OVERNIGHT OATS If even cooking oatmeal is beyond your abilities in the mornings (and youll get no judgement from us!), overnight oats are the perfect solution. Try this nutrient-rich, protein-packed variety, courtesy of Lauren Harris-Pincus, M.S., R.D.N., author of The Protein-Packed Breakfast Club. Combine oats, unsweetened almond milk, plain Greek yogurt, chia seeds, chocolate protein powder, and pomegranate seeds. The balance of protein and fiber from the oats and fruit will delay digestion and help to keep your energy levels up much longer than a high-carb meal, plus the chia seeds absorb up to 10 times their weight in water to help keep you full, she says. BREAD PUDDING IN A MUG Bread pudding is the ultimate comfort food in the morning, but it doesnt have to be a calorie bomb. Indulge with this healthy version from Harris-Pincus. Mix one egg, 2 tablespoons vanilla whey protein powder, a packet of stevia, and 2 tablespoons milk. Fold in a chopped apple and two slices of cubed whole-grain bread. Pour in a mug, and microwave for one minute. Top with syrup and cinnamon. BREAKFAST WRAP Smoked salmon on a paleo wrap with roasted vegetables, greens, and avocado is the go-to breakfast for Elizabeth Trattner, chef and integrative medicine specialist. This yummy wrap is high in healthy fats and fiber, which keep you full longer and helps you lose weight and lower cholesterol, she says. The best part, however, is how customizable this is. Swap out the low-carb wrap for a whole-grain wrap, trade the salmon for chicken or eggs, and use any type of veggies you like. HARD-BOILED EGGS AND QUINOA Make a big batch over the weekend: Bring water to rolling boil on stove, place eggs in pan, cover, and remove from heat. Let it sit for 12 minutes. If you have a few more minutes, Goodson suggests pairing your hard-boiled eggs with cooked quinoa, which is also high in protein, and berries. BREAKFAST TACOS Tacos are an anytime food, as shown by this recipe for breakfast tacos, courtesy of Jerlyn Jones, M.S., R.D.N. Take a whole-grain wrap or taco shell, add black beans, scrambled eggs, lettuce, salsa, and avocado slices. The beans and eggs provide protein, while the avocado provides healthy fats and the veggies bring the vitamins. Plus, its perfectly portable. CRUNCHY TOAST Who doesnt love toast in the morning? But the regular butter-and-jam variety is little better than a doughnut when it comes to nutrition. Add protein and nutrients with Jones toast. Start with whole-grain bread, spread it with a nut butter of your choice, and sprinkle with chia seeds. This combo provides protein along with a hefty dose of fiber and fats. PROTEIN MOCHA Good news for coffee lovers: Upping your protein at breakfast can be as simple as adding a scoop or two of protein powder to your large coffee. This genius trick comes from Adrienne Daly, a nutrition coach based in Houston,. Her favorite is to get a grande sized Cold Brew from Starbucks and a serving of chocolate protein powder to make it a mocha.
